Do you as parents feel that your children are not getting enough opportunities to interact with peers or become a part of a group?

Do you as a parent feel that important skills such as social-emotional understanding, perspective taking, negotiations as well as ability to interact with peers and teachers are being missed out on?

Here are a few suggestions that may help improve your child’s social interaction such as talking effectively, interacting with peers, starting a conversation, listening, dealing with uncomfortable situations, bonding, interacting, accepting, and finding acceptance, etc.

  • Take turns telling short stories or short pieces of information to each other.
  • Create scenarios with your child in which manners and courtesy should be used and have your child practice being courteous and polite.
  • Practice decision-making scenarios and strategies.
  • Create scenarios in which your child has to use her words to communicate her wants and needs.
  • Encourage your child to share her belongings with others and practice asking others for permission to use their belongings.
  • Play board games, card games, or other types of games with your child.

Let your child build and create games where they can either lead or take turns to create steps in the game for Eg: let’s build a park using a Lego set” so when you do this activity in a group your child will learn to negotiate, take turns, or take initiative. Good social skills allow kids to enjoy better peer relationships. But the benefits of robust social skills reach far beyond social acceptance. Children with better social skills are likely to reap immediate benefits.

Now, these are certain things one can do at home however these might not provide you with enough group exposure or opportunities for conversations.

So My Whole Child is here with social group sessions which would provide children with opportunities for children to interact in a social environment as well as follow social protocols.
